Bleach Drabble (not MS!)~ In Dreams

She comes to her when she’s sleeping. Not her usual version of sleep, but the true, deep sleep that’s so rare for her. It’s when her mind is relaxed that Haineko can slip free of her metallic shape and glide across the room on ashen paws. For a long moment, the large cat looks down on her owner, her partner, and her splitsoul, a heaviness weighing in the oddly colored grey eyes. She knows her mistress is in pain. Not the physical pain the young vice of the fifth was in when she was run through, but a mental pain; something deep seeded and long lasting.

With a gentle huff, she settles behind her mistress and curls as close as she can. As expected, Rangiku shifts in her sleep and turns over, seeking the familiar presence. A low rumbling purr starts when much thinner arms curl around the spiritcat’s neck. Carefully, Haineko nudges her until she’s in that odd, half awake state. Rangiku barely blinks, showing the twilight in her eyes.

You’re still thinking about him, aren’t you?

Without a word, Rangiku closes her eyes again and buries her face against Haineko’s neck, partially trying to avoid the question, and partly just wanting to go back to deeper sleep. Not having any of that, Haineko nudges her again with a growl.

No you don’t. You’re neglecting yourself and that’s not good.

The look Rangiku gives her is nothing more than a halfhearted glare, lessened even more by the hooded eyelids.

You know better. He’s not worth it. I’ll show you how little he should be to you. I’ll take Shinsou between my teeth and snap him. I’ll do the same to his owner because he hurt you.

Rangiku merely shakes her head and curls up even closer. In a sleepy voice, she mumbles, “can’t… love him too much… cry.”

You cry too much already.

Her protest falls on deaf ears as Rangiku drifts back off to find the sleep she needs.

Haineko settles in for the night, curling around her mistress as she thinks on all the previous nights she’s tried to have the same conversation.
